Thin Client
Thin Client Technology provides the ability for the enterprise
to simplify access to many applications via a browser through their
web portal software enabling organizations to integrate and publish
interactive applications into any standard Web browser. Supporting
these solutions are Thin Client Management Services, an array
of technologies that improve application administration, installation
and security. These services allow for the secure deployment of
server-based applications over the Internet through a virtual private
network (VPN) solution in a variety of computing scenarios.
This approach may provide many benefits, including:
- Thin clients are low cost, approximately 1/3 to 1/2 the price
of traditional desktop computers
- Thin clients are secure; there is no removable media, and network
administrators control user access
- Data backup is centralized in the data center
- Upgrades to applications are done centrally
- Management and maintenance costs are lower, driving total cost
of ownership (TCO) down
